Meeting together

Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25

This week’s email repeats the same message as last week’s – the need to encourage one another in the faith. Fellowship with other believers is one of the great privileges of being a Christian.

I once asked an athletics coach how often he got to church: “Every Sunday in winter – one in three in the summer if I am lucky” was the reply. So how do you keep your faith going if you are travelling a lot? Personal devotions are important. Some athletes I know listen to the service in their home church over the web. Attending a church where you are can be an answer but that is not always easy logistically – and it may be in another language.

Meeting together can just mean fellowshipping with a fellow competitor. There was a professional football team in England where a few players used to pray together on match day in the laundry room – because it was a convenient room, unused on match day!

So as you travel to compete, look for a fellow athlete or team mate with whom to have a prayer or short Bible Study – to encourage one another.
